Located on the
southwest side of
Belvidere
,
Washington
Elementary School hosts a student
population from a wide and diverse area.
Currently,
Washington
School
has the largest elementary enrollment in
District 100. Because of this
diversity, our student body represents a true cross section of our
community.
Parents new to our
school may be interested to know that
Washington
has an enrollment from kindergarten
through fifth grade. In
addition,
Washington
houses the “district based”
pre-kindergarten/early childhood blend program, six self-contained special
needs classrooms, and eight bilingual classes.
Each of these programs is open for identified students from across
the school district.
Washington
School
, along with all of
Belvidere
Community
Unit
School District
100, continuously seeks ways to improve
curriculum and the delivery of services to children.
To that end,
Washington
has a very active Parent-Teacher-Child
Organization (PTC), Building Leadership Team (BLT), and Very Important
Parent Program (VIP). All
groups work hand-in-hand with the school’s teachers and administration
to develop goals and help support an environment that provides the very
best learning opportunities for our children.
All teachers at
Washington
are actively involved in on-going staff
development and professional efforts.
In addition, the majority of
Washington
teachers received graduate degrees or is
in the process of earning a graduate degree to heighten their mastery in
the field of teaching. Due to
the strength of our faculty,
Washington
is proud that it has also been chosen as a
“host school” by
Northern
Illinois
University
and
Rockford
College
for placement of student teachers.
In recent years,
Washington
teachers began a new process for school
improvement with a renewed emphasis on excellence in teaching.
These strong efforts have paid large gains in the success rate for
our students.
We are proud that
Washington
School
has twice been the recipient of the State
of Illinois Honor Roll awarded by the Illinois State Board of
Education. Honor Roll Awards
include, “2005 Academic
Improvement Award” and “2006
Illinois
Spotlight
School
Award”.
